Peace at last... Peace

Fantastic. Brilliant. A bold move, some may say. When IRA began his activities in the early XX century, nobody could say the “fight” would be over, unless the Crown returned “all Ireland”. I’m not a big supporter of Sinn Fein, though, but I like how seriously they’ve dealt with the situation.

For the Irish-American, and specially Senator Kennedy, this is a dream come real, because the immigrants’ descendents have always pledged for peace in the motherland. As a Catholic myself, I am utterly pleased with the outgoing news. Frankly, the return of peace in such a troubled land comes at the best moment.

May I remind that a ceasefire was in place ever since 1997. Unfortunately, the “Good Friday” agreements were dropped, but Tony Blair is far from being a fool, and therefore I believe he, or his successor as Prime Minister will be restoring them as soon as there’s clear evidence of the terrorists’ arm-dropping.

As Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern said, “this is the end of the war in Northern Ireland”. Of course, Ahern is reluctant to consider IRA a lawful organization. It will eventually dissolve, leaving behind only the Political “wing”, Sinn Fein. The “Taoiseach” shares a common sight with the British PM: violence had to stop.
