$40 billion is an amount of money you don't really see every day. Despite that, the Louisiana's senators from both parties are requesting that for the state's rebuilt. As the Post points well, this fills several times the planned budget for the disaster.
Is it that messy? At this point, We've got to ask ourselves wheter the plans underestimated Katrina's devastation, or the request is totally out of any logic, which would be my pick. it is then normal to consider such delegation a greedy one, and the plans for the rebuilt are definitely undermined. That to respond the Post's article questions.
It is likely that Senators Vitter and Landrieu are taking part on a "rebuilt-and-do-better" plan for a flash-rapid rebuilt, that wouldn't help the economy on the long-term, but make them fancy enough to get another term in Washington, which I find disgusting.
Don't get me wrong, though. Solidarity with Louisiana is of the essence. We need the state on his feet as much as we would need Texas or Florida, or whatever, but this can't lead to ask the moon and all the stars to enact an overfed plan for rebuilt. As Mr. Grumwald and Mrs. Glasser of the paper point well, the lobbys are behind that. Nobody else. Not, definitely, the ones that have lost their homes with Katrina. Would you like your Nation ruined because of that? I would not!
I'd rather say is too soon to establish a budget. Remember that, after Katrina, Rita came quite quickly, leaving hañf-finished the emergency rebuilt works. The hurricane season is ending in one month. Let's hope no more disasters occur on the zone, but if it was on my hand, I'll wait no less than two weeks.
